EXPEDITIONS Join Us Alaskan expedition The Murie Center is offering its forth annual trip to the Sheenjek River Valley in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge this August. This nine-day river trip is designed to offer participants a chance to experience for themselves a part of the Brooks Range that touched the hearts of the Muries and played a key role in the establishment of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The trip will be led by Arctic Treks, an award-winning Fairbanks based wilderness guiding company that has been leading trips throughout the Alaskan Arctic for over 20 years. Dates: August 13-21, 2007 Teton Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park The Murie Center is pleased to invite you to join Taylor Outfitters for a unique adventure on the trail of Olaus and Mardy Murie into Teton Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park from August 22-29, 2007. The Muries spent many seasons exploring this wild country on pack trips that followed the migration routes of the Jackson elk herd between their winter grounds in the valley of Jackson Hole and their high summer range. Olaus and Mardy wrote powerfully and poetically of these wilderness sojourns, describing a world full of rich and wondrous details and encounters. Riding on Taylor Outfitters' "steady steeds" through the spectacular Teton Wilderness, you'll have the opportunity to follow along a historic migration corridor into the elk herd's summer ranges. In the course of the journey, you'll make camps en route between Gravel and Mink Creeks in a landscape the Muries knew and loved, before ultimately camping along the major tributaries of America's headwaters, the Yellowstone and Snake Rivers near Two Oceans Plateau in Yellowstone National park. This late summer journey is graced with an abundance of wildflowers and wild animals, including elk, mule deer, moose, and eagles. Taylor Outfitters will provide all horses, meals, camping supplies, and equipment except for sleeping bags, pads, and personal gear. They offer a wide array of meals for the trip, including gourmet campfire dinners each night, and are happy to accommodate specific dietary needs or preferences if contacted ahead of time. The trip cost is $2,200 per person. A $1,000 deposit per person will reserve your spot on this adventure and should be sent directly to Taylor Outfitters (see below). The balance of $1,200 per person is due May 1, 2007. Taylor Outfitters has generously offered to donate $200 per person to The Murie Center as a benefit for future Murie Center programs. Please contact Taylor Outfitters or The Murie Center if you have any questions. Space is limited to 6 guests, so we encourage you to make your reservation soon.
